Some exciting news for our office we wanted to share with all our friends! A wonderful opportunity has come about for Marsha to re-join the James Bramblett Team of Re/Max Executive Group, Inc. Marsha will be re-locating her office to the Vineland Office Complex in Vine Grove, where she will be situated amid all of the new development in and around the Ft. Knox area. Wanda Huffer will also re-join the James Bramblett Team, and will keep an office at the main Re/Max Complex in Elizabethtown, so better to serve her clients. Great Community Outreach "D65 Parenting Conference"

A great opportunity in our community to help you "Parent Beyond Your Capacity" will be hosted this Sunday, February 13, 2011 at Valley Creek Baptist Church. The Conference is based on the scripture found in Deuteronomy 6:5, Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your strength.

Join us as we dig into some hot topics, practical tips, and tangible ideas as we move through this thing called parenting together. We'll spend time discussing how the church and home can partner to help us all elevate our level of parenting, influence, and overall growth of our children and teens.

Clean Laughter

As a parent you always try to protect your children. It seems as though television, radio, concerts, etc... now need censoring. Our families at MBA all seem to be very close. Finding activities that are appropriate for all ages seems to be harder and harder. We can find shows or movies that entertain the little ones but bore the young adults. We find shows for the young adults and the little ones are just too young. It always seems the adults and elders suffer through just to see the smiles on the little ones face. For this holiday season I took my family to see Cirque Dreams Holidaze. It was truly entertainment for the whole family. Our family ranges from 4 to 65 and they all sat in amazement.

My daughter and I also had a girls night out to enjoy one of our favorite comedians, Anita Renfroe. She is known for the "Mom Song" but does numerous other skits. I would like to take a moment to thank each and everyone of you who donated time, items and money to Shop with a Cop.

Friday night FOP Lodge 39 held an auction at their lodge to raise money to help children get winter clothes for Christmas. FOP members gathered to enjoy fellowship and food. Afterwards an auction was held with donated items from the community. There was lots of laughter, bidding wars and of course tons of money raised.

This is the FOP Lodge is hoping with the money raised they will be about to help out around 45 children. GREAT SUCCESS!!!

Well another successful Glendale Days for 2010, and if I didn't know better I would say we had record crowds this year due to some great weather. A great way to jump start your Christmas shopping, or just a day out with friends or family, Glendale Days has something for everyone. While supporting local artists and families or organizations, you can find gifts like jewelry, handmade candles, lots of Christmas decorations to fit most any person on your list. My family goes to experience the food! If you have never tried a deep fried Oreo Cookie, or deep fried Twinkies, you haven't lived yet! Be sure and mark your calendar for next year's Glendale Crossing Festival so you can experience one of our favorite local attractions. You will be glad you did!

Preparing your home for a Home Inspection

Thinking of selling your home in the near future? It is likely there will be a home inspection ordered after you have an offer on the table. Thanks to a local home inspector, Kevin Beasy, below is a list of things that will help you get your home ready and take the worry out of the inspection.

Remove dirt/mulch from contact with siding or brick. The dirt should be at least 2 inches below-- but 3 to 4 inches is recommended.

The ground should slope away from the home so no puddles form close to your foundation. Pay close attention to down spouts, be sure they are directing water away from the foundation.

Trim trees and shrubs back from the structure.

Clean out gutters, chimneys and siding and have chimney professionally cleaned.

Be sure all windows and doors are in working condition. All latches should operate correctly. No cracks in glass panes. Check for fogged glass and have these replaced. Check screens for holes and have them repaired.

Paint all exterior wood. Replace any rotted wood. Caulk around all windows, doors and trim.

If you have a crawl space, be sure it is dry and the vapor barrier is in good condition. If space is musty smelling, you probably need more ventilation.

Check to be sure attic ventilators are working properly and no vents are blocked.

Have your air conditioner serviced. Be sure to replace air filters. Check for water leaks in attic especially around chimneys and vents.

Check to be sure all bathroom vents send the air to the outside, these can not vent to the attic.

Test all smoke detectors and install a CO detector if needed.

Be sure you have GFCI receptacles in required areas like bathrooms, kitchens (must be within 6 feet of sinks), garage and any outdoor locations.

Replace any burned out light bulbs.

Repair any leaking faucets and toilets.

Check grout to be sure it is clean and solid. You should repair any loose tile or spongy wall behind it. Re-caulk around tubs, showers and shower doors. Do not do quick repairs that look cheap and unprofessional. This is a red flag for inspectors.

The inspector will need access to the electrical service panel, attic, water and HVAC system. Make sure these are clear from personal items to allow for easy access.

Hi,

I just wanted to take a moment to remind everyone safety first. This has been a dangerous month it seems. Below are a few tips to help keep you safe.

The heat is unbearable at times. Remember if out in the sun wear sunscreen. We have had personal battles with screen cancer. Reschedule strenuous activities until cooler times such as early morning or late evenings. Drink plenty of fluids.

Keep all doors locked and never let a stranger in your home. I know this may seem silly, but in the past month I have had clients called with strangers wanting to see inside their homes or letting themselves in. If you house is for sale, call the agent to show. If your children are home alone, tell them not to answer the door. Just remember you don't have to show your home to someone who is wanting to see the floor plan.

One last tip. If you use online banking. Make an effort to check it daily or weekly. This will help you catch fraud sooner. If something looks suspicious call your bank, even if you cant remember if it was you or not they will be able to give more details of the purchase and help to stop identity theft from happening to you.

Mary Ann Lee is a friend and fellow Real Estate agent who used to work in our office. She was recently in an accident that severed her right hand and her left thumb. Her employer did not have any insurance for her and she has already had several surgeries and many more to go so this benefit will help out with medical expenses. She has no use of her hands right now, and cannot do the simple tasks that we take for granted everyday. Paying our respects for a local fallen solider

If you have a Facebook, you probably have seen the huge show of support for local fallen solider Mark Hudson. He was a native of Larue County and graduated from Larue County High School. As a community, we are trying to rally as many people as possible to gather on the route of his final ride home. We will be out in front of the Re/Max complex about 9:15 am to show our support and hope you will join us, if not here, somewhere else along 31W between Ft. Knox and Elizabethtown. It will be cold, so bundle up and we will have hot chocolate for those that park here. It will be an honor to show our support to his family for the service he provided our country.

Lots of people have been asking me what some of my favorite I Phone Apps are since I have had my I Phone for quite awhile now. I thought I would share them here so whether for business use, there should be something for everyone.
I will list my favorites first then describe each one according to how I use them.

Facebook speaks for itself, no better way to catch up than using Facebook for the Iphone

Amazon Kindle- the Iphone version of the Kindle App is even better than the real Kindle if you ask me. I actually purchased a Kindle for Christmas because I loved this app so much but was disappointed with the "real thing" because of the lack of touch screen that comes with the Iphone app. Also, the screen flashes when you turn a page, kind of a slow blink and that too was a downgrade to the Iphone app. You do loose screen size with the Iphone, but there are so many advantages to having your books in a compact size you will have with you anyway, nothing extra to tote around. A must for anyone who reads, and the free selection of books make this even more appealing.

Dragon Dictation is awesome especially if you think of things while driving but don't want to take your eyes off the wheel to text. For example, I might simply need to make an important phone call when arriving to work, but just know with so many other things on my mind I will forget this. So, I open Dragon Dictation, push one button and "Speak" my message, then one more button and I can send it either as an email or text with very little effort and the message is waiting for me as a reminder when I log on at work. There are tons of other ways to use this but being forgetful like I am, this is fantastic!

Evernote - works with your online account of Evernote where you can save typed files, photos, or spoken messages and sort them however you find useful.

Google - is just that, a search engine like you would have on your computer, but they make it better because you can "speak" the business you might be looking for, and it will give you the listing with one button dial feature also to keep you as hands free as possible. I have used this many times while looking for certain merchandise, or even calling ahead to pick up dinner.

Web Albums - this is a IPhone version of Picasa's Web Albums. This is great if you already use Picasa because you just sign in and there are all your photos to show from your brothers wedding, to the new house you want to show family when you go for a visit. No need to drag the photo albums out of the closet.

5-0 Radio is a police scanner and allows you to listen to your general area, whether it is police or fire and ems. If you have a loved one who works in these fields, you can listen in on the calls they may be heading too.

Lose It - if you are like me, you are continually dieting or watching what you eat, or just trying to get more active. This app is great because it has tons of foods you can track in their food journal, as well as many, many exercises and how many calories you can burn doing them. It has endless possibilities so definitely a good one to check out.

DropBox - syncs with your PC version and you simply drop files into it on your desktop and it is instantly available on your Iphone. Maybe a PDF file you needed to read, or a recipe you wanted to share, it is right there as if you were on your PC at home.

I received this idea from a client and thought it was a great idea worth sharing!

Put your car keys beside your bed each night when you are getting ready for bed. Why you ask? Well, if you hear someone outside your house in the middle of the night, grab your keys and set off the car alarm! What a great idea! You have an instant burglar alarm and pay no set up or maintenance fees. Tell your kids, your parents, your friends and co-workers, you never know when this will save someones life! It could even work for someone who has a heart attach or falls and can't get to a phone. Someone would surely become suspicious and call the police if it continued to go off.

Recently I find myself at restaurants asking if the French Fries are fried in a separate fryer, if I can get a hamburger with no bun, and ordering everything plain. My daughter has to avoid wheat, rye, and barley. Being Gluten free is keeping her feeling healthy. In case you didn’t know, gluten is in about everything. So we have been trying new food, experimenting with new ingredients and still most items don’t taste the greatest. October is birthday month in our family. Being new to all this we knew finding a birthday cake she could eat that everyone at the party would eat was going to be a difficult challenge. If you search “Gluten Free Birthday Cakes” you get very few website that you can order from. Most I found were plain round cakes priced $50 and higher. Tena has been making cakes for my family for years. I emailed her in hopes she had possibly heard of a gluten free cake. We were excited to find out she knew exactly what I was talking about. The birthday party was a success. Everyone loved the cake. My daughter ate seven pieces that week. It wasn’t a plain round cake, it exactly what my daughter wanted and very reasonably priced.

I was just reading an article I found on Re/Max and it thought it was worth sharing. It revealed that Re/Max agents ranked "Most Productive" of any other company. They provided graphs and showed that Re/Max agents averaged 13.2 transactions which was 36% higher than the closest competitor.This particular graph was for 2008 and the survey found Re/Max was the most productive for several years running.
One great thing Re/Max has going for it is the name, Re/Max is recognized everywhere and brands sell! Wouldn't you rather have a Re/Max sign in your yard than a virtually unknown? Networking for Women in the Heartland

I am excited to be a charter member of the newest networking opportunity in our area, Networking for Women in the Heartland. We had our second meeting yesterday and our group has already doubled in size. The Brown Pusey House in downtown historic Elizabethtown was host to our meeting and has already been booked for next months meeting too.

This group is based on another similar Networking for Women group out of Bowling Green, KY and we are happy to now have a chapter here in the Hearltand. If you or someone you know would be interested in being a part of this group, feel free to contact me and I can give you some additional details.

We had several speakers who spotlighted their business to the group and I think we all took away information we would not have known otherwise. The event was catered by 'A Family Affair' catering service and the food was wonderful. There was a raffle where great door prizes were awarded as well as some time to network and meet new people and exchange business cards and brochures.

I belong to other networking groups but already I feel this one is going to be something I will be a part of for a long time to come. The women who have organized and brought this group to the Heartland are dedicated and community orientated so with this comes many opportunities to be seen and heard throughout our growing community. I am excited about the possibilities for my business to grow through the people I meet here.

Zolon Helm Happy Retirement!

We recently had the pleasure of throwing Zolon Helm a "Semi-Retirement" party at Clauida's Tea Room in Sonora, Kentucky.
Zolon is loved by many and was somewhat of a Mother to many, many agents the past 25 years where she worked at Re/Max Executive Group, Inc. here in Elizabethtown. Zo (as we call her) is an agent with Re/Max but so much more above that too. She saw the company grow from small beginings to the #1 Real Estate Company in Hardin County and surrounding counties.
We decided to honor Zo with a small group of women who were mostly Re/Max agents who have been by her side throughout her career. A small setting in the Thurman Phillips Historical Home, or Claudia's Tea Room known now to the locals was where we celebrated her years of dedication and committment to Re/Max. All in attendance honored Zo with gifts and memories and we reminiced into the late hours of the evening. We also toured the grand home built in 1897 by Josiah Phillips, Jr, we enjoyed tea, lemonade and many special treats and savory finger foods like Benidictine sandwiches, warm blueberry scones and many other unique items.
We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to Zo for her many years of leadership and guidence as well as her friendship and wish her well on what ever her future holds. Repair Affair - Marsha Booth & Associates

This Saturday June 6th, Marsha Booth & Associates is participating in the Annual Repair Affair Day here in Hardin County. As a team we will be helping one family do much needed repairs to their home with the help of Home Depot who will be helping with supplies and several Professionals who have also volunteered their time to help us make this project a success.
The leader of our team, Sandy Wallace has been involved in the Repair Affair for several years and is dedicated to helping those in the community who need it most. The home we will be working on needs things like upgraded electric, winterizing of windows and doors, floors repaired, plumbing, and lots of painting and trim work. We have a team of 16+ people involved on just this one home. There are several other teams that will be working Saturday also on different homes with different specific needs. We are excited to be a part of this program that will improve the lives of a few families in our community. You do not have to be a member of Oprah's Book Club to use this handy Book Mark Maker and I personalized a few to put in books when I loan them to friends so they remember to return them to me when they finish. If you are a Realtor, this is also a good way to promote yourself in a 'subtle" way, just put your contact info on the book mark and be sure to leave books with your clients who enjoy reading too. Books always make a great gift too so remember to consider a book when buying for friends and family.

I am one of these people who can't remember things like picking up a gallon of milk after work, or picking my daughter up after school at a certain time on Wednesday or my dentist I didn't want to go to anyway. So, I came across this site and thought it was useful. I gave it a couple of test runs and it works great, converts your text to speak your messages. So, I plan to use it each morning if there is something I need to remember later in the day I can set it up in the morning before leaving to the office and it will remind me when I tell it too. Check it out, you will surely find it useful too!

Mixing up our weekly office meetings!

With today's economy, we business owners have to help each other out and I am a big advocate of business relationships or business partners.
A recent example was our office meeting last week we were invited to a local shop called Whitt's End. It is a boutique of home and garden things and has a unique variety of products that is sure to come to mind when shopping for that hard to buy for person in your life.
We were warmly invited with coffee and pastries and heard Ginni (the shop owner) tell the story of how she came to open Whit's End. We felt right at home and discussed how we could help each other by using our circle of influence and work together toward a common goal. Ginni surprised us all with some great gift certificates we can pass on to our "New in Town Clients" and discussed ways of using "extra space" to build community relations for the small businesses. Whitts end will soon be hosting classes for Staged So Right's Sheila O'Mara where you can see where items you can purchase right there at Whitt's end can give your home that special touch to make it appealing to buyers in today's market.
At the close of our meeting, I think everyone left with a brighter outlook and a bag or two of items we just couldn't live without. For you Realtors out there, Whitt's end has gift certificates too for that extra special closing gift! Thinking of Investing in Real Estate?

As a Realtor and investor myself, I want to share a couple of things if you are considering becoming an investor in today's market.
First, think smart --if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is!" Just because it seems like a bargain, do your homework on the property. You will be glad you did.
Investing in Real Estate can net 9-10% more than stocks so consider what you expect to achieve.
Rental properties should rent for approximately 1% of the purchase price. Check your local market to be sure other properties on the market are comparable.
Consider auctions, estate sales and banks sales as prices are usually below market value!
Not interested in property management? Consider a tract of land with possibility of future development or commercial use.

Cream, Sugar or black? How do you like your coffee?

What makes a person decide how they like their coffee? Is it a genetic make up? Is it your job? Can you tell someone personality by want they drink? With all the different types of coffees, creamers, sugars, it can get very confusing. Instant or not? The more I think about this the more I realize what a big industry coffee and all of the accessories to go with it. We just purchased a Keurig and I love being able to have something different every time why wait you can have a cup like johnny on spot no waiting. I like mine with more cream than coffee and in a pink mug. What is your favorite type and why?

Most of us at Marsha Booth & Associates are coffee drinkers. We all have our own preferences and really just enjoy a good cup of coffee and the conversation around the coffee pot. Stop by sometime and sit a spell and have a cup of coffee with us! You will be glad you did!

Business is Great! We are upgrading!

Thanks to the great clients we have at Marsha Booth & Associates, we are happy to say our two girls up front are BOTH getting new Dell computers! For awhile one of the front office computers have been going to sleep when ever it feels like it, so you don't know if it will wake up or not. And if you walk to the back for a cofee or anything, it just decides at random to shut down. Time to upgrade for sure! So we got a great deal with some "inside" discounts so we got two for the price of one we had been considering! So, Cindi will get a faster computer and will stop complaining, and Kala will have no excuses so we are ready for what ever you can bring in!

As a special suprise, I have decided to get each of the girls a new "Mini Laptop" as well, so no matter where they are at, their work will be at their fingertips! Not really we just wanted to let them know how wonderful they are and just as a thank you and they have both been in the market for new laptops anyway.

Customer Service Represenatives--Where are they trained?

Ok, over the past week we have had many instances where we needed to talk to customer support and I thought this was a great idea for a blog post. First off, Dell has great customer service and walk you through every step of your purchase and answer any questions you might have. They would have to be at the top of our list this week for overall customer support. Now, take a few steps back and look at the customer service for Comcast! Totally another story! After our home internet service being intermittent for about 2 weeks, I called and set up an appointment for the following day. The window they gave me was a 4 hour window so I made arrangements to have someone home. Four hours went by, no tech showed up. So I called them back, they checked their records and said there had been no service call set up. I was furious. I explained someone had been waiting and what in inconvenience it had been, they hung up. Now I was upset, but was not rude so I was by this time very upset. I calmly called again, got a human after going through the same 20 "press 1 for this extension, etc." that I now had memorized, and again got an appointment set up. This time they did show up about 2 hours later. Now, you would think problem solved, but no...last night...internet was not working properly again!

My point in all of this is that customer service seems to go this way with almost everything anymore. I waited in my cell carrier showroom the other day for about 30 minutes to check on an error that was made to my bill. They had several customer service reps working, but one girl who was just there for show apparently couldn't even help me. What good is that? So I had to wait until one of the other reps was finished with the customer she had, which if you have ever been in a cell phone place, this can take forever when you had just though you could run in.

One more thing, do you ever feel like you are in the Twilight Zone when you shop at some of the Supercenters? It never fails, I can get in line with one or two people in line in front of me, and stand in the same place for what seems an eternity! I always seem to pick the one who has issues with her register, needs a price check or needs change and her customers are paying with a check! Never fails! I never shop when I am in a hurry in these places now, I have just resigned to the wait and instead of getting frustrated, I decide ahead of time if I really have time and need the things I am in the line for.

Community Service as a Team Building Adventure

As a fairly new Team we are always looking for fun ways to interact with our community and recently Hardin County's Repair Affair was brought up at one of our meetings. Repair Affair is our community coming together to make a difference for our low-income elderly and disabled citizens who need help making repairs to their homes. With both skilled and unskilled volunteers, minor repairs and safety issues are mostly addressed.

The event is to be held Saturday June 6th, 2009 and what is needed are the following:

Teams of skilled and unskilled volunteers from businesses, churches, etc. to come work on the planned day.
Contributions are needed to purchase materials to make the needed repairs.
Your friends or neighbors who are in need of some assistance repairing or winterizing their home or help with a safety concern, give them an application.

The day of the event, volunteers receive a T-shirt and a lunch is provided by other volunteers. It is a great way to bring our community together and get to know your neighbors and share your knowledge.

Our team at Marsha Booth & Associates of Remax Executive Group, Inc. has issued a challenge to all other Realtors in our area to form their own team for this event. We hope to get all the different real estate companies involved that day to help support our community. A look at Radcliff, Kentucky

With all the recent talk of BRAC and the much anticipated influx of families affected by the realignment, we wanted to showcase some of the local area in our blog. Radcliff Kentucky is just outside the Army post at Ft. Knox Kentucky and is a community that has seen many changes in recent years.
One of the larger employers in Radcliff is Cardinal Health which is located at 501 W Lincoln Trail Blvd., and they manage medications for nearby hospitals and distribute medical and surgical supplies.

Close by is the Colvin Community Center which brings an Olympic junior size pool as well as a wading pool for younger children, tennis, basketball, shuffleboard and lots of playground equipment. There is a fully equipped kitchen and meeting rooms for your community get-togethers.
Next door to Colvin Community center is the Radcliff Justice Center and we were lucky enough to be by there to watch the local fire department decorating the Christmas tree with their ladder trucks.

Another active shopping center nearby is home to the Peddlers mall, a great place to shop for antique's and handmade crafts as well as lots of other interesting things, and the government contractor Northrop Grumman and a 24/7 Fitness center, Snap Fitness, as well as a golf shop and driving range. With several other stores from nail salons to dollar stores there seems to be a variety to suit most anyone.

Another unique thing about the Radcliff area is all the Antique shops you can visit. If you are a fan of antiquing, this is the area for you because several of the nearby smaller communities are well known for their small, family owned shops and eateries.
Other places of interest include shopping at chains like Walmart, Food Lion, some smaller chain stores like Hibbits and Cato, and restaurants like Applebees, Jerry's, Asian Buffet, and others with German food, Korean, Mexican and Mom and Pop type establishments. There is sure to be a favorite for every member of your family.
A couple other places that are unique to Radcliff are the Challenger Learning Center where local students get a memorable hands on experience and where some local events take place. Also the skate park located at the entrance to Radcliff City park. This has been a place for youth to practice their skating skills in a safe place.

This community is very much about the children with fun places like Blazers Family Fun and a Roller Skating rink and lots of other places to enjoy with friends and family. We took a little trip this week to Saunders Springs in nearby Radcliff, Kentucky which is located near the back gate of Ft. Knox. The entrance now has 3 authentic log homes that have been brought from nearby locations and restored on site. Within the park, there are trails that would keep you hiking for days, and creeks and water reservoirs and great photo opportunities everywhere. A lot of local people take advantage of the natural backgrounds here and make it part of their engagement photos or family photos, etc. There are a number of picnic facilities from tables to covered pavilions and public restrooms for family gatherings or reunion events. Going Paperless

Ok, our office recently decided to go paperless and I am curious what others are using to manage their paperless files. We have a Xerox machine that allows us to email documents to ourselves so we just email a copy of the original contract and store it by property name on our hard drive. We also save a back up copy too. We keep all photos of each property in a folder along with all other documentation and keep a log file for any notes we make on each property. Right now it is kind of tedious because it is different from what we are accustom to, but I think in the long run it is going to be much easier to manage not to mention all the trees we are saving. I also us a program called DoPDF which shows up as a printer in your list of printers. If you have a document, say an email you want to keep a copy of from a client and instead of printing it for the file, you simply choose DoPDF from the list of printers and it creates a PDF file that you just have to name and file in it's corresponding property file. This has been very handy in recent months.Another simple way to eliminate some of your clutter is to choose paperless billing with all of your monthly bills. Most electric companies and other utility companies have this option if you visit their websites. In most cases you can even save the cost of the postage because this service is free if you pay online. If you keep copies of your bills for your taxes, just simply print to DoPDF and save it to a file labeled taxes and you saved paper yet again. With Christmas just around the corner, I always have those couple of people on my list that are hard to buy for. Well a couple of years ago, I heard about the Trappist Monks who live at the nearby Abbey Of Gethsemani. They have a gift shop on the grounds and even have a website where you can order some of their unique products. From Fruit cakes to cheese and fudge, there is something for everyone on your list. They also have jellies and jams and different butter spreads as well as coffee from the Venezuela Monestery where the monks grow this in the Andes Mountains.The gift shop also includes stoneware pieces as well as lots of books and religious items so if you have time and enjoy places off the beaten path, this is one place you don't want to miss.

I recently visited with my friend Birgit and we enjoyed the quietness of the grounds and of course brought home some cheeses. My favorite is the Aged variety and definately is something that keeps me traveling those back roads to Trappist Kentucky a couple times a year. Steve and Sandy have been a part of the Re/Max family for 7 years and we are excited to have them join our team! They have both been in real estate for 13 years and have 5 children, one of which is also a Realtor at Re/Max Executive Group, Inc. In addition to their 5 children, they also have 10 grand children! Steve and Sandy both bring so much to our team already and we are excited for what the future holds.

One thing close to the hearts of both Steve and Sandy is their pets! They have 6 rescue animals, 3 Dachshunds, 1 ShiTzu, 1 mini-Pinschur and 1 cat. They love their animals and have fostered all of them to give them the quality lives they deserve.

Successful and Fun Halloween Event!

As you can see by the photos, we had a great time at the 6th Annual Re/Max Halloween event at the Re/Max Complex in Elizabethtown on Friday night. Although the crowd was not quite as big as it was last year, we had a steady stream of ghosts and goblins stop by for candy and glow bracelets. We had the front part of the office decorated with bats and eyeballs and were playing some favorite Halloween sounds while the room was lit by a flashing strobe light which made the room scary to quite a few little ones as well as a few big kids too. A potluck brought everyone together at the main office were we enjoyed home made broccoli and cheese soup, hot wings, carrot cake and many other dishes brought by Re/Max team members. Dracula was on hand for photos in front of one of the offices, and several blow up creatures adorned the parking areas. It was a safe, family atmosphere enjoyed by lots of children and families. Remember us next year where we will be sure to have even more plans for a great evening of fun!

Glendale Crossing Festival

This past weekend on Saturday October 18th was the Glendale Crossing Festival in nearby Glendale Kentucky. It was the 31st annual festival and drew a great crowd. With somewhere between 350 to 400 booths there was lots to see and do. The exhibits range from handmade jewlry to unique items like hand painted turkey feathers created by an Amish family not far from our local area. There is live music performed at the grandstand, and tons of festival food from pork burgers to Deep Fried Oreos! It is a great place to shop for unique gifts for those hard to shop for people on your list. There was a parade as well and several tractor demonstrations and tons of antiques. The weather was perfect and next years festival is sure to be even better.

On October 23, 2008 from 6 Pm to 9 Pm An Exhibit of personal photographs of Jackie O will be on display to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society at the First Federal Savings Bank in Elizabethtown, KY. As you may or may not know, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis lost her battle to lymphoma, but you can help us find a cure so that others are able to survive. Please support our efforts to raise awareness about blood cancers while paying tribute to an American icon.
This event is by invitation, and there will be a silent auction as well as a cash bar and donations will be taken at the door. This will be an event to remember so mark it on your calendar. Collecting Caps for Cancer RETRACTION!

Ok, so I got to thinking about the email I sent out about a week ago about collecting water bottle caps for cancer and wondered if it was too good to be true.
This idea came to me via my daughter's school where they announced a girl attending U of L who had cancer and was collecting the caps to help defer the cost of her chemo treatments. I thought it was a great idea so I brought it up to the office. Of course everyone was eager to help and had enlisted their families too, but after doing some hunting online, I found the info to be misleading. I called the school to see if I could verify the girls name and where she was receiving cancer treatment in hopes that we could continue collections, but after they did some investigating they too found nothing concrete to support that collecting the caps would indeed be accepted for treatments. So, it is with much sadness that we will no longer be collecting caps for cancer and in the future will try to do my investigating well before publishing a "grand idea" and getting everyone involved. What a shame that someone would even come up with an idea like this and it not be true. The children at the school will also be disappointed when they find out this was not true. They had already collected a substantial number of caps and now there is no place to donate them.

Ok, I have found an awesome way to find some really unique websites! If you use Mozilla Foxfire as your browser, you have most likely heard of Stumble. But have you actually tried it? Be careful, it can be very addicting!

I have found so many great sites on Stumble that I may start posting some of my favorites! One that I recently came across and thought was very unique and useful too was http://kukuklok.com/. Check it out if you have a few minutes and it is sure to be a favorite for you too, especially if you have teenagers!

I guess I should explain for those of you who have no idea about Stumble! It is just a button on your browser that you click and it takes you to random sites associated with choices you make when you first download it. For instance I choose Photography as one of my picks and so I get a lot of unique photography sites and they are great for ideas maybe for Advertising or family photographs? I also picked Technology as one of my choices and came across one of my favorites www.lifehacker.com. This site offers a ton of great Techie info and you too will want to check back on this one often.

Do you follow the Olympics? I don't usually but I had the chance to watch the Men's Volleyball today and it caught my attention and then Michael Phelps winning his first Gold medal of 8 he hopes to win this year at the Beijing Olympics. I also caught parts of the opening ceremony and if you have not seen any of it, look for it online because they really went all out to make it very special. Open Houses?

I read an article today about OPEN Houses and what they mean in today’s market. I don’t know how everyone else feels but I feel that an open house is still an effective way to market a home.
From a personal stand point, I think if a buyer is considering a certain home, they are going to do everything possible to get a look and feel for the home and photos and virtual tours only give you so much. And maybe you are considering a particular home and want your mother’s opinion? You have already toured the home and there is an upcoming open house scheduled, just take mom by the house and let her get a look too. Maybe you can’t remember if the 3^rd bedroom is big enough for a full size bed? An open house allows you the freedom to tour the home again without feeling like you have to make a special appointment to get another look.

From a realtor standpoint, anyone who comes to an open house is obviously looking for a home or at least knows someone who will need your services in the future. An open house is a great way to let people know the types of services you offer and also a way for you to reach people who you don’t already know. Hand out those business cards and pay attention to what people’s needs are. Even if it is not an immediate need, someday they may call you and it will be worth the time you spent getting to know them.

HOME A RAMA- How exciting!
Were you able to get to the home show this week in Louisville? I was able to take some time and go and it was well worth the trip. The homes showcased were beautiful and the new techniques and designs are fabulous. The Neighborhood that was on display was "Locust Creek" and there were guides in each home explaining the details of the different designs.
Our local Parade of Homes is almost ready for the September unveiling! We have it listed in "The Orchard" and it has been great to watch the expertise of the builders bring it all together. I am very excited to be a part of this and the other Parade of Homes in our area. Watch in September so you can tour this beautiful home too! New trend in the horizon?
Ok, I saw on HGTV the other night "Sleep on It", a show that encouraged a potential homebuyer to sleep over at the house that they were most interested in purchasing. It gives the client the opportunity to spend a night in the house and see if it is a good fit all round. Now I see this as a good idea, but might hurt the sale of a lot of homes too. Maybe there is a train that runs nearby or a loud neighbor coming in from work at 3:00 AM? Not exactly things you have any control over but would possibly be a deal breaker. Our company has not had a request for this yet, but I wondered if anyone has had any requests for this and how did you handle it? With today's "Try before you buy" marketing, I can easily see how this would be a up and coming idea for real estate too. What do you think?

Recycle In Elizabethtown

Ok, if your office is like our office, you occasionally have old newspapers laying around, not to mention cardboard boxes from new equipment or office supplies you have purchased. Well, why not start recycling at your office. It doesn't take much effort, and the impact you can make can be something that makes a difference for your children and grandchildren now and in the future.
There are several locations now where Elizabethtown is taking recyclable products so grab those discarded newspapers and those empty water bottles and start making an effort to bring change to your office and your home too.

As a family, we visit the recycle center about once a week, just add it to a previously planned trip to town. It takes little effort on our part, just removing the cap from our water bottles, rinsing those milk jugs, and instead of throwing away that empty cereal box, we just break it down and add it to the other cardboard products we used to throw in the trash. It quickly becomes addictive, and almost a challenge to see what you can recycle. Drive up to one of the trailers and see for yourself the impact recycling is having here locally. They are quickly finding the need for more trailers and drop off locations because so many are beginning to make that effort.

Did you know a stack of newspapers just 3 feet tall will save one tree? 17 trees can be saved by recycling 1 ton of newspaper. Start stacking them in a closet and see just how fast they add up. Start small and see how good you feel about your efforts. I challenge you to pay attention for one week to the number of things you throw away that can easily be recycled. Now multiply that number by the number of people in your office—staggering isn't it? Start making a difference today!

Nearby Bardstown Kentucky

Have you spent any time in Bardstown Kentucky? There are a lot of interesting things there worth checking out! Like the haunted Jail House estimated to be about 200 years old. They have made it a bed and breakfast and you can stay behind bars if you choose! If you venture out back, there they say men were hanged right in the courtyard. It is a beautiful setting but does have an eerie feel to it.
A few blocks down we came across a Museum of Whiskey History. There were a lot of interesting things here too, and I was able to get a unique photo here. This would be a place I would like to return and spend some time. There is Saint Josephs Cathedral in Bardstown also and it was a beautiful place to see. There is lots of history here and there is usually somone there to give you a tour and tell you the history. The stained glass always gets my attention and also made for a great photo. I have found many other great places in Bardstown and if you have guests in from another place, this is a great place to spend a day. There is definitely something for everyone here.
Is there a favorite place you like to visit nearby? That is one of the great things about living in Elizabethtown, there are so many great places in and around the area that you can spend a day visiting or just a couple hours. I love to just grab the camera and go-- you never know what you will find and want to remember!

The National Association of Realtors celebrates 100 years this year! Just where would we be without our Realtors? If you are reading this take a few minutes to call your Realtor or send a quick email and just let them know how much you appreciate them. I met my Realtor some 15 years ago, that was before Marsha (obviously she is my realtor) was a Realtor. We became friends first, watched each others children grow up and each of us choosing different careers. We remained friends, and when we decided it was time for a change some 10 years ago, of course I trusted my friendto help us with the difficult work of selling our house and buying our home. The rest is history and we love our home, and although we plan to stay put, I would work with Marsha again in an instant if our situation changed again and we decided to move again. Marsha didn't just help find our home, she built a relationship with our family and I believe she makes a point to do that with everyone she meets.

Ok, we have found a gem of a product especially considering the price! FREE! We found Jott.com kinda by accident, but have tried it and really find it useful.
Ok, picture this....driving home after work and you remember a fax you were supposed to send but forgot because you got busy with something else. You need to try to remember first thing the next morning to send that fax so grab your cell phone, select Jott from your contact list and send yourself a message. Jott transcribes your voice into an email as well as a text sent directly to your phone. Want your husband to grab a gallon of milk on the way home from work but you know he won't be able to answer his phone right now? Jott him, he will get a text and know to get the milk, thus saving you time and hassle. You can create lists within your Jott online account and even print them for use later. You can even get rss feeds via your Jott. You don't have to be real tech savy to use it, just give it a try. We think you will like it! We do!

Well, we had a fun day today! The boss was out! :) Our junior assistant was here today, Mercedes! We kept her busy stuffing envelopes and making copies! Kala.....well this picture says it all....

We have been brainstorming our database all day and still are up in the air about what we need to do. We have 3 diffrent databases we are trying to set up and want them all to be as easy as possible to use. So, what's your opinion? Which data base do you use? We need to keep all three seperate for different things.

We have an event planned for mid July that we are also working on propmoting. It is going to be an OPEN DOOR EVENT, and we plan to offer on site Injured Credit Solutions as well as free credit reports. Our in house Mortgage Loan Officer Birgit will be here to speak with anyone who needs assistance or has questions. We are giving away $25 worth of free gas each hour of the event too, and we all could use a little help in that area now right?? We also plan to have agents on site if you would like to tour any property in the MLS, or you can view any of the properties in the MLS right here in the office. Well this blog is going to be a collective effort by us to keep you entertained, informed and updated on all that is here at Marsha Booth & Associates. First off, let me say we are a Real Estate Company that has recently opened....or rather branched off from our main office, ReMax Executive Group, Inc., here in Elizabethtown Kentucky. Right now our team is made up of 3 full time Realtors and two administrative assistants. Marsha, being an associate broker and full of great ideas and highly motivated is responsible for this great company. Among our group is her daughter Kala who attends college and works here part time. Then there is Wanda, tell it like it is, mother of two, wife to Kelly and loves her coffee in the morning -Wanda. Kim, mother of three, worked in finance a good part of her life so knows the in's and out's of the money end of any real estate deal. She's quiet but always has lots going on so she is always on the go. Then there's me, Cindi, newest member of the team, mother of two, and always looking for more time in the day! We seem to work well together, and collectively have a lot to share. So this is our "water cooler" if you will, a place to let it out and share ideas with you and among ourselves.
